Kungsfenan - The Swedish Seafood Award
Kungsfenan - the Swedish Seafood Award aims to inspire and stimulate to a continued sound development of our Swedish food traditions, where nutritious fish always has been, and should be, one of the main ingredients. To safeguard this cultural heritage so that we, young and old, for everyday meals and special occasions, can continue to enjoy the delicacies of the ocean and our lakes.
Kungsfenan, The Swedish Seafood Award, was introduced in 2001 on the initiative of the County Administrative Board for Västra Götaland and with the responsibility for the administration of the award given to the trade association Svensk Fisk. The aim of the award is to inspire and reward people, within all areas of the industry, who are making a contribution to a positive development of fish and shellfish – in the ocean and in our lakes, where it’s caught, within the food industry, distribution and retail, in our diet and as part of our food culture. The prize money of 400,000 SEK is divided between two categories and sponsored by Swedbank and Sparbanksstiftelserna in the west of Sweden. The award winners also get a replica of the work of art created for Kungsfenan by the Swedish designer Kjell Engman. The award ceremony takes place at Gothenburg Opera House, with pomp and splendour. The ceremony will be preceded by seminars and other industry related activities (workshops) with a connection both to the award winners and to current issues concerning fish and shellfish.
